Summer has finally arrived! Whether your plans for the season involve lounging by the pool, traveling, or just catching up on household projects, you will need nutritious food to fuel your activities. If you have replaced your lost teeth with dental implants, what are some seasonal treats that you can enjoy both safely and easily? This blog post offers some helpful guidance.
If You Recently Received Your Implants
If you are still in the early stage of recovery after your dental implant surgery, your food choices are extremely important. A soft diet protects the surgical sites, limits irritation, and supports healing while the implants bond with your jaw. Summer offers plenty of easy options, but you should still avoid anything hard, sticky, spicy, or very hot until your dentist says otherwise.
Here are some foods that you should be able to safely enjoy:
- Greek yogurt with mashed banana or smooth peach puree
- Seed-free smoothies
- Applesauce or soft melon cut into very small pieces
- Mashed avocado, mashed sweet potatoes, or very soft pasta salad
- Pureed soups, such as tomato or squash
If Your Implants Are Firmly in Place
Once your implants have fully integrated with your jawbone and your new teeth have been attached to them, you should be able to enjoy virtually any food with comfort and confidence. That is because dental implants function much like natural teeth, so you can bite and chew with much more strength than you could with traditional dentures. Therefore, you should be able to enjoy all your favorite seasonal meals, including:
- Yummy proteins, like grilled salmon, chicken, or tender steak
- Tasty vegetables, including corn on the cob, grilled zucchini, and roasted peppers
- Sweet fruits, like watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, and sliced peaches
- Fresh salads with chopped vegetables, avocado, and your favorite toppings
- And more, including ice cream, pies, and beyond
Cautions and Reminders
Even if you feel great and your implants are healthy, it is smart to use common sense. For example, you should moderate your intake of sugars because they can contribute to infections around your implants. You also need to be very thorough with oral hygiene, especially if you enjoy foods that have seeds or other small parts that could accumulate around your implants.
Dental implants can allow you to enjoy all the flavors of the sunny season! Ask your dentist for specific, personalized guidance on how you can eat this summer to use your dental implants to the full without endangering them.
